Yo dudes

I just caught the story about “Amanda Berry”, a girl kidnapped for 10 years who was finally rescued recently (link). Its really nice to see someone stay alive so long and finally get fee, yet at the same time sucks that they were even kidnapped in the first place.

Then there’s someone called “Sylvia Browne” (website) who apparently is a self proclaimed psychic, who regularly appears (or appeared, I’m not sure) on the Montel Williams show to give psychic advice and readings to people.

In the last couple of days, people are realizing that back in 2004, Sylvia Brown incorrectly predicted that Amanda Berry was dead, right on the show. She seriously told Amanda’s mother that Amanda was dead.

Now the internet is bringing a shit storm on Sylvia Browne.

I’ve been reading tweets and posts attacking her. People were writing on her facebook page that she should just admit she’s a fake. People are angry as shit. Its so bad, that when I went to find her facebook page, it had already been taken down, presumably because she couldn’t keep up with all the negative comments.

Okay tell me if I’m off base here… but I’m not upset with Sylvia Browne…. and I really wonder why anyone else is.

I mean why the fuck do people still believe in psychics anyway? The whole concept is so easy to disprove. If psychics were legit, they’d all be rich and not even working as psychics, plain and simple. Think of even just a few ways you could leverage psychic ability:
Predict the lottery (no brainer)Predict the stock marketPredict where the richest ‘believers’ are hanging out, find them and charge them huge huge feesPredicting what small business they should start, and how to run it to become mega-successfulPredicting how/where to meet the owner of some huge company who will end up paying the psychic loads of money for some HR/PR positionAvoid any personal problems, accidents, injuriesPredicting and stopping where people are going to get hurt, robbed, etcHave the foresight to avoid being slapped directly in the face

There are so many logical reasons that psychics are full of crap, that I could just sit here and go on and on and on. I typed up that list without even pausing, and I only stopped because I got fucking bored already. And don’t even try to keep a straight face while saying that psychics aren’t allowed to use their abilities for personal gain - they all want money for their services.

People who ‘believe’, do so because they want to believe, not because what they believe is true. There is a distinction. For a psychic to be convincing, you’ve got to play into their little game - feed them information (talking with them during your your story, nonverbal cues, etc), and ignore the general statistics at play when you ignore a misread here and there, or that most of their predictions are highly probably situations in the average person to begin with, or leave the timeline open ended so you can’t actually say with finality that something didn’t come true until you’re actually on your deathbed in 50 years.

Oh oh wait, I’m getting a vision. At least once in your life you’ll get into an auto accident looooooooooool

There are just so many easy ways to snap out of the whole “I believe in psychics” thing, its amazing to me that people still buy into it.

Therefore I don’t blame Sylvia Browne and other psychics. I’m sure they understand they’re full of shit. I really don’t believe someone can use so many proven psychological techniques in order to dupe people, without being aware that those tactics are disproofs of psychic abilities in themselves.

Sylvia Browne is a smart business woman, or at least someone in her crew is. She is just playing her game of life a little bit smarter than the rest of us. She has a great income and doesn’t have to sit in a cubicle 40 hours a week. Think about it.

So if you or someone you know has been duped by a psychic… well I am sorry - that does suck. I was a believer once too, and I know how it feels to so badly want that fantasy to be true.

But in the end, we have only ourselves to blame.

Bitchesssssssssss

Yo Dudes!

I have a new single coming out yaaaaaaaaay

The song is called “I’m Such a Drag (Just Sometimes)”. I know I know. Laugh it up, but that’s the title I went for lol.

So yeah - at this very moment, you can already pre-order it on my little page at BandCamp. I’m setting the price at $1 as usual. Pay more if you can. Listen for free after the release date here or on Spotify and ish.

Also I think I keep forgetting to mention this, but if you really don’t have the cash, you can still earn a free copy of this and any other Mp3. All you have to do is pretty much be awesomely supportive, then ask. I give stuff away all the time. Well maybe I’ll wait a month or so after this one releases, but you know what I’m saying.

So yeah! Pre-Order now! Next Sunday the single will drop, and everyone who pre-orders gets the Mp3 immediately, plus an ultra high resolution copy of the artwork.

Tell your friends and enjoy!

Thanks for your support you dudes!

PS - Special Thanks to Photographer Toshihiro Oimatsu!

Hey peeps!

So I’m basically just sitting here, feeling completely useless as usual, when it dawned on me - I’m a busy guy. Well I guess we already knew that. The point is that I often feel like I’m not getting very much done, despite feeling short on time all day long.

My friend showed me an article about some new syndrome, roughly called “Busy Lifestyle Syndrome”, which apparently makes you feel forgetful. Well hey… I’m really forgetful. lol.

Okay anyway, I thought it might be fun to list the things I’ve done today, just for the sake of my own posterity. Keep in mind that today is one of those days I feel I’ve gotten nothing done.

Called the auto shop about taking my car in … didn’t take it in thoughSent a few texts to one of my gig bookers about not being able to help her fill in a show this Friday, due to probably not having a car all weekendBought some new “no flat” wheels online for my spare/smaller gigging cart, so I can loan it to familyRead about 20 random articles (as usual) on topics ranging from programming, to music marketing, to just random crap like busy person syndromeScanned in about 10 Talent Release forms and Work for Hire forms, which go along with the music video I’m about to editSearched a little bit for a replacement photo for the new Artwork i’m working on (for the single I’m about to release) in case the guy from japan (who already licensed his photo as creative commons, but I wanted attribution specifics) emails me back and wants outWent to the gym, did legs, then 25 minutes of cardioQuick nap after the gym, forcing Freddy to let me cuddle him (I call it a “dog trap”)Fetch with my FreddyCaught up on about 3 days worth of backed up tweets to reply to from fans and friends - it wasn’t a lot today though - maybe only 20-30Wrote a blog earlier called “Fuck you to hell, family” which voices my concerns over my sister and brother in law constantly making “lets go see a movie” plans with me, then seeing the movie without me (whores)Realized I’m late shipping a T-Shirt to a fan who bought one last week (Sorry Alyssa!), and began packing her packageChecked the accounting section of my music’s digital distribution income (and wished it was about 100x more than it is)Finally remembered to hook up my “Marketing Status Updates” to my facebook fan page (it was only hooked up to my twitter before)Added an old video of myself playing my song “My Mind” live at the OC Fair into my marketing messages’ rotationFired up the computer in my bedroom, and remotely told it to fire up one of its virtual machines (think: linux inside windows), so I could publish a couple videos on my youtube gaming channelAcquired some porn (hey lets be honest here)Realized (after investigating fishy behavior) that my firewall was blocking some ports that I needed to be using, then fixed itRecharged camera batteries, flash batteries, and repacked my camera bagFound a new home for my silly new walkie talkies (spoiler: it was just a drawer)Fired up the virtual machine I use for my “day job” and let its cron run for a few hours without me touching it, so it could compile a bunch of data without me having to bill my boss for itWatched 3 episodes of Dr Who with my mom over a couple meals (hurray el pollo loco and netflix!)Wrote this god damn blogOrdered a couple “flash gel holders” off amazon (they allow you to color light from your camera’s flash, and one of those collapsible foldable shoulder mount shoulder things to possibly help me when I try to filmTalked with a friend for 20-30 minutes about possibly using her relative as a human guinnea pig for an idea I had where I wanted to film very humanizing bio short films (like this)Opened up my accounting software and marked a few invoices as paid due to receiving checks in the mailCopied a few movie files onto my hard drive for my vlog (but didn’t do any editing or uploading)Wasted a bunch of extra time on facebookInputted maybe 8-10 emails from the “Newsletter Signup Sheet” that I keep out at gigs, into my website, then put the clipboard back into my merch box.Tried to sit down and think for a bit on how to improve my facebook marketing. Right now I’m doing a very very low bid per ‘like’ (to try and help the investment actually break even instead of costing me way more than I make back), but in order to do so I’m having to target a lot of less “popular” countries to market to (I love you bangaledesh fans, if you’re reading this). I was thinking maybe I should target fans of other huge bands instead, but I quit before I came up with a solid plan.Adjusted an adwords campaign I have going to give a slight boost to some of my youtube video views. Long story short I am a cheapskate.Sat and stared at this blog for about 10 minutes, wondering if I’m an idiot for posting it or notTook a couple of “old as F” rewritable mini DVDs from the camera I just threw away, and converted them to movie files on my hard drive. Apparently I was playing at something called “the sawdust festival” in 2009, before I had an HD camera (ouch)

I guess you could say I do get things done… to a certain extent. There are things I did but didn’t list here, mostly due to me usually forgetting anything I’ve just done. Yet I still can’t shake the feeling that I could have done a whole lot more, but I’m missing it somehow.

Maybe facebook is to blame, lol. Maybe its that I was supposed to work on a video for my sister’s bridal shower but didn’t have time, or that I didn’t get to practice or record music (as usual).

Maybe I just have ADHD or am too forgetful.

… or maybe its that I have so much to do, that the amount I get done in any given day seems small. Like if you have 1000 things to do, but only get 50 done, that’s like 5% … and more things build up each day.

Oh well. Thanks for indulging my random babblings again, peeps!

I haven’t written a blog in awhile, so I’m just here to complain today.

I really want to see the movie Oblivion with Tom Cruise and Morgan Freeman, and my first thought was “Oh I’ll ask my family to go. They all sounded interested in that one Yaaaaaaaaaayyyyy”. This sounded like a good plan inside my head.

Then it occurred me, what usually happens:
Phase 1 - The family makes plans to see some movie togetherPhase 2 - Mikey gets really really excited about alllllll the fun we’re about to havePhase 3 - Three days later, while hanging out or having food together or something, my sister and/or brother in law inform me something to the effect of “Oh yeah, sorry. We were bored last night so we went and saw it by ourselves”Phase 4 - Mikey never ends up seeing the movie until its out on mother fucking DVD

Fuck you to hell, family

YO dudes!

I have a quick request… if you are in the OC/Costa-Mesa area, by the South Coast Plaza mall, I need your help!

My Sony Store exhibit finally went live, and now I need votes!

If you’re in the area or can drop by, I need you to:

1 - Walk into the Sony Store
2 - Find the “The Contested” display, which has a bunch of those cool headphones lined up, and its basically underneath a TV that occasionally shows my photo
3 - Snap a quick photo of yourself wearing those headphones and tweet it out using the hashtags and

There are only a few days left so this Sunday (tomorrow) would be especially helpful.

And how about to sweeten the deal, I’ll randomly pick 2 of you who were able to do this for me, and give you a FREE T-Shirt and autographed CD. How does that sound!? Woot!

Thanks for reading you guys! Lemme know if you have any questions. I also did a quick vlog to explain it to my youtube peeps. Feel free to watch it as well.

SonyStore exhibit is almost here!

Hey you guys!

My exhibit is almost ready to be featured here in costa mesa! I re-imagined two songs for this project, and guess which one was your “fans’ choice”?

My Mind!

Yaaaaaay!

Well I think early on it was kind of obvious. I got like 10 emails about it almost immediately, and nearly everything else was the same. So yeah, two new remixes of my music, and I’ll be featured in my local song very soon.

I’ll keep you guys posted, but in the meantime you can listen right here on soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/mikeperalta/sets/sonystore-the-contested-previews

I’ll probably take these previews down eventually, so listen while you can!

SPOILER ALERT!!!
Yo dudes… I’m gonna rant about Walking Dead, so don’t read on until you’re caught up!

Andrea: A Hero’s Death!?!?!
What the damn hell!!! The talk show that always comes on after Walking Dead (“The Talking Dead”) just said that Andrea died a “Hero’s Death”. Really!? All she did was fucking shoot herself so she wouldn’t turn into a zombie! That’s a somewhat more noble way to die, but a hero? Is this that bullshit where society calls anyone with difficult circumstances a hero? lol… Seriously, think about it:

Andrea should have believed Michonne about the governor being an evil bitch, but she didn’t. Granted, she was blinded by sex, but still! At least listen to your damn friend.Andrea then noticed several things that should have proven that the governor was an evil bitch, but still was too stupid to get it.Andrea, after finally starting to understand that the governor - again was an evil bitch - had the chance to kill the governor, several times, but failed to act.Because of Andrea’s stupidity, tons of people are now murdered or tortured then murderedYay fukken Andrea. What a hero.

Look, I get it now - Andrea was trying to be kind and allow everyone to live. Fine, fucking fine. I get it. She wasn’t evil, nor was she actually as dumb as I thought. Yet she still is, and I was so pissed at her a few episodes ago, I didn’t even notice her naked ass. I mean she is a hot actress after all. Anyway. Her character did deserve a little respect, but not on the order of being a hero. She deserved respect on the order of someone who made a stupid decision out of kindness. That’s not bad/evil. Maybe a little tragic.

So is she a hero? HELL NAW

Freaking Milton, Man
I think the real hero was Milton. Freaking guy had no experience whatsoever killing zombies or facing other groups in combat. He was a total lab rat, which means his level of courage and battle experience is on par with one of us, sitting here on the computer, reading blogs and facebook lol.

Seriously, could you imagine going against someone you knew would murder/torture you for it? That’s what he did when he torched those zombies the governor had.

And could you then imagine being the nerd that you are - and believe me we are all major fucking nerds compared to the characters in walking dead - having the shit beaten out of you by that same madman, and then - with all your injuries and lack of combat experience - try to knife said madman, knowing that all he’d do is take it away from you and shove it into your own gut? Milton did all that just for the small chance of saving Andrea. He chose his own death over “graduating”, as the governor called it (read: becoming a serial killer too).

That’s a fucking hero! Andrea was just a bitch.

Okay I’m sorry. Andrea wasn’t a bitch. I’m just still pissed at her character.

In slightly related news, are you guys also glad Michonne is finally “human”? You know what I’m talking about? She used to speak with her lips all tight, no emotion, scowl on her face, not letting anyone in. Now she is opening up to people, smiling and getting along, and looking almost happy sometimes. Kinda attractive bowchickawow.

Also, regarding Carl - I realize the kid is in danger of becoming a “little governor”, and Rick needs to come back for some better parenting when he is more mentally stable… but that boy who pulled the shotgun on Carl/Hershel was seriously about to kill them. He wasn’t putting down his shotgun when asked… he was slowly inching towards Carl so he could make a play. I’m sorry but even though Carl’s philosophy on life now is fucked, he still made the right call in that one particular moment.

Okay I think this rant has gone on long enough.

Youtube Announces The Nominees For Best Video (Day 1)

LOL

Is anyone on Youtube today? They’re doing their April Fool’s joke today and its both ridiculous and hilarious. Basically everyone woke up this morning with a notification that all their uploaded videos were automatically nominated for some sort of ‘Best Video’ award. Now, youtube is live streaming two presenters going through stacks and stacks of cards, “announcing” the nominees - which are basically every single video on youtube.

The gag is doubly hilarious because they’re also using it as an excuse to read some of the most ridiculous youtube titles+descriptions available, completely pronouncing any misspellings, grammar/punctuation errors, smileys, run on sentences, or thoughts that simply stop before they’re finished. They’re reading everything in a totally deadpan/serious tone, which is making it even more enjoyable.

Also, the female presenter is hot. I think her name is Kendra.

Check it out while its still on!

YO Dudes,

I try not to get too political on here, but alas, I’m up at 4:44am again, in between projects and waiting for a stupid backup job to complete. I guess I can either start working on another project and stay up to 7am, or write this blog and go to bed in a few minutes.

So anyway, if you know me, you know that my political side leans a little to the left. Sometimes very hard to the left. I try to take a step back and observe that both parties can be stupid and evil, and that all politicians have their own agenda. Still, its sometimes hard to stay neutral when a conservative says something agitating, like for instance “corporations are people”, which is obviously just a ploy to use corporate money to skew our country away from what real people, really want.

Anyway.

So I just caught an article on facebook, posted by a friend. It speaks about an economics professor who taught his class a lesson about “obama socialism” by averaging all their grades together, and giving everyone the same grade. Obviously the lowest scoring students didn’t try any harder (expecting a free ride from the higher scoring students), and then the highest scoring students stopped studying (also expecting a free ride), and eventually the whole class averaged out to an F.

I get that concept. That’s the main reason communism sucks. When you give everyone the absolute same pay, for absolutely every job, no matter how easy or hard, people stop giving their best effort.

What irks me is being manipulated. They’re making an invalid comparison, so certain socialized services by one politician seem like communism. But socialized services are not communism! They’re not even full blown socialism. Those terms are thrown around because, well, humans in general are morons (myself included), and we’re easy to trick. We hear a buzz word, or some term that we have negative associations with, and we have a tendency to turn off the part of our brain that actually analyzes a situation, and conclude based on a word, rather than reality.

For instance, we spend hundreds of billions of dollars on our military without even batting an eye, because our brains oversimplify things we cannot understand. We think to ourselves:
Less military budget = Weak! … More budget = Strong! America needs to be strong! Therefore … more military budget!!!!
No one even stops to ask themselves how much military budget is enough, how it compares to what other nations are spending, how much we need to spend to reasonably ensure our own protection. We don’t even know how many military “things” we need, or how much they cost. The underlying data required to conclude how much budget is enough budget, is just too complex for the average person to fathom. Yet we don’t like feeling stupid, so we make shit up. We conjecture. We hearsay. Then we believe our own crap. Think about it. Even most professionals are simply guessing! So, in the absence of real knowledge, we do what we’re best at. We oversimplify.

Anyway, I’m getting off track. We oversimplify, and are vulnerable to buzz terms, coined phrases, preconceived notions, etc etc. Some people figured this out, and use it against us (aka: every single politician alive). I wish life weren’t this way, but it is. I have to work my ass off to catch myself when I do this, and the average person isn’t even aware its happening.

It just bugs the crap out of me.

Anyway, yeah. Socialized services are fucking not communism. If you think we should do away with all social services, then we’ll also be doing away with things like:
Public Schools - Can you imagine forcing those in poverty to enroll their children in private schools, or homeschooling?Public Roads - Let everyone pay for their own roads! Our Court System - Let everyone hire their own arbitrators and sort things out themselves!Law Enforcement - Someone murder your brother? Hire your own detective and then buy your own jail after you catch him. Forcing the state to do it for you, would be socialism!EM Spectrum Assignments - Allowing the government to control what wireless frequencies are available for what services (ie: television, radio, wifi, air traffic control, etc) is communism! Instead, everyone should just buy their own transmitters, and whoever buys the largest can be the winner and the list goes on and on and on and on
Ridiculous, right? I obviously had to be sarcastic there to prove a point. There must always be some form of government aid, regulation, etc. There will always be services that people disagree on, and always those that most everyone needs.

Yet, there will always be corporate interests that rely on the privatization of certain services in order to make their money - And that lends itself to corporate money being poured into lobbying, social campaigns, misinformation, and other manipulations to control public opinion. That creates corporate tools - people who believe crap like “universal healthcare is communism” because some CEO somewhere, spent the right amount of money.

We must pick and choose as a people, what we believe the government should control, and what aid it should lend. It is a highly subjective area.

Should our government control our courts? Law enforcement? Public roads? I think so. It seems like common sense.

Should our government subsidize huge corporate ventures? I’m not sure. I leave that to economists and statisticians, who are much more capable of determining whether it would be in our best interest. That is also common sense.

Should our government provide healthcare to those who are too sick, poor, unlucky, or even incompetent to take care of themselves on their own? Yes. That is just being a decent human being.

Okay have you guys seen this yet? It’s one of these internet crazes where everyone posts videos of themselves doing the same silly thing (sort of like “reactions to two girls one cup”).

Anyway, this one is called The Harlem Shake. I’m not sure how old the concept is, but I just discovered it, and it’s awesome. Here are my favorite videos so far:

and my favorite of all:

Thanks for my buddy DJ Wally Llama for showing this to me!

Well hello there you dudes! I had my interview at La La Land with Brett and Dorothy this weekend, and had a blast.

If you guys don’t know what La La Land is, its an indie broadcast base in Los Angeles (LA). It’s made by LA actors, for LA Actors. Both hosts are active actors in the community. It’s also a play on words… stop for a second… wait for it… ah, there it is haha. Kind of cool, huh?

Anyway, I was lucky enough to get another interview with them this weekend. They usually book many guests with lots to say in a short amount of time, so last time I was on there I think I barely had enough time to play a song and then talk for a quick minute before I had to jet. This time however, they allowed me a larger opportunity to play the show in/out with one of my songs (they let me play music as segments were starting and ending).

Also my buddy Alex came down to help out! Usually I go to interviews all by my lonesome, which can be kind of boring, but he totally came down, totally drove me, and even brought three other people, including his brother Terry who I hadn’t seen in a long time. It’s really fun showing up somewhere with a crew. It kind of makes you feel important, lol.

I’m pretty sure everyone had fun, because we were all joking around and being loud the whole where there and back, aside from the actual show where we had to be more quiet. Also, the building we were in, was apparently where they used to hold the Oscars back in the 1950’s. Crazy huh?

We also got to enjoy some pretty legit theater peeps talk for almost an hour too. The guests included Richard Tatum, Jamison Haase, Micheal Seel, and Jessica Kubzansky (the Co-Artistic Director of The Theatre @ Boston Court) … some majorly cool peeps in the LA acting scene! It was a real treat to see their interviews up close and personal.

I have some of my own footage of my performances, plus a high quality audio recording. I still need to look them over and edit them before they can go live, but basically I should have at least one good youtube video coming up if you stay tuned. In the meantime I found a copy of the full length show that the studio posted right here:

Anyway… just a quick update. Give me a little time to post up my own pics and footage!

Peeps!

The time has come! I’ve finally released another music video! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!!

The past few months I’ve been working with my old buddy Alex Hamric of HamricStudios.com on a video for my original acoustic song “I Heard”, and it came out great!

We had talked for a long time about doing a video together, but it never seemed to materialize until a few months ago when we had an email conversation about our dSLR cameras, which quickly turned into a phone call, and then we both sort of snapped and decided to cut all the bullshit and planning, and just do a video together. We literally brainstormed for a matter of minutes before setting a date to meet up and film, and on the day of filming we completely winged it, without any sort of plan in mind, and had a blast for about four hours in the beautiful city of Orange.
